I’m a South African-based freelance journalist, sub-editor and blogger with a Master’s in Journalism. My assignments as a travel writer and photographer have seen me travel 44 countries, whether it’s as a solo traveller or as part of a collaboration with tourism boards and private companies. I have trekked Salcantay in the Peruvian Andes, dived in search of dugongs in Mozambique, stayed with an animistic family in Laos, kayaked the Mekong River, planted rice in a northern Thailand village, hiked inside Reunion Island’s active volcano and hitchhiked across borders.
My articles and photos have been published in over 40 international newspapers, magazines and websites, such as BBC Travel, Financial Mail Travel, Forbes Travel, Business Day, Mail and Guardian and Sawubona. My editorial interests range from documenting the entrepreneurial spirit to exploring the potential of tech and innovation, and championing sustainability. Alongside my curiosity, I’m willing to take on – almost – any subject and project, from writing press releases, ghost writing blog posts and media articles to scripting conferences and creating social media campaigns. My writing projects span from penning keynote addresses in the speaker’s voice, writing internal newsletters and mailers to subbing corporate videos and working as a final sign-off copy editor.
In almost a decade, I have worked as a magazine editor, journalist and sub-editor (that Certificate in Advanced Sub-editing from IAJ comes in handy). Creative agencies and Destination Marketing Organisations are also among my clients. And I’ve also been a team member at large publishing houses working for various publications and with numerous consumer brands, such as VW, Nissan, Dove, Cadbury, Clover, Mr Price and Standard Bank.
